You picked up all my pieces, Put me back together, You are the defender of my heart – Lyrics from the song Defender
Next week, myself and my youth group are going to Soul Survivor. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it’s a christian festival that happens during the summer. It’s a place to hang out with your friends, go to some really cool parties, learn more about Jesus and yourself and just overall have an amazing time with amazing people in a really safe place.
One of my favourite things about Soul Survivor is the worship during the main meetings. There’s something so special to me being in a place with thousands of people singing the name of Jesus, however that may look to them. At a place like this, they really encourage you to come as you are, with whatever baggage you may have and give it all to Him… and that’s what really happens.
Since I first became a christian I loved worship music. It just spoke to me and was way that I personally could connect with God. To me it is so special and powerful whether I’m on my own, with a couple of people or thousands of people. It’s just an amazing thing. So, I thought that I would tell you all about a few of my favourite songs at the moment and how they’ve effected me. Let me know if you’ve heard these songs before or if you discover them through this, I would love to hear your favourite worship songs and how worship in general has effected you! Feel free to comment below or message me, I’d love to hear your stories!
This Is A Move – Tasha Cobbs
This is a song that is full of so much power. I’ve had this song on repeat for a few months now, listening to various versions of it. At the moment my favourite version has got to be the live video of Tasha Cobbs and Brandon Lake from Bethel Music singing this together. This song is one of those things you can listen to whatever your mood is and in some way it will effect you. Whether that’s just to cry out in worship, party and let loose in worship, get a little crazy or just be in the presence of God. The lyrics I would say are so simple but so true. Yes, the song is almost repetitive but when singing it or listening to it, you don’t notice how repetitive it actually is because the song grabs you and just allows you to worship. It allows you to welcome God to do what He wants to do with you. Whatever that may be. That’s why I love this.
Worthy – Elevation Worship
For the longest time I’ve loved Elevation Worship and all the songs they bring out. I feel like they bring a huge range of styles and I think that’s really cool. For a while now I’ve been listening to their album ‘Hallelujah Here Below’ and loving all of the songs on it (again, full of so many styles). One song in particular has caught my attention a lot recently and that’s been the song ‘Worthy’. The lyrics talk about everything that Jesus has done for us and the freedom and love He gives us because of the sacrifice on the cross. It allows us to give Him the praise for all of the things He did, does and will always do for us. He is the name above all other names and His name is so Worthy of praise. This song reminds us of that. This song brings us into praise and worship for His beautiful and powerful name. And it’s extremely catchy!
Raise A Hallelujah – Bethel Music
This has become an extremely popular and a very well known song since it’s release and it’s very understandable why. This song is something that is for everyone on their journey with Jesus. It’s a hallelujah that everyone can raise through every storm and every hardship, in front of every giant that will stand in their way, knowing that God is going to be right by their side. It’s a reminder and a melody declaring that Jesus defeated death and will be able to defeat any giant that comes in your way. This song is so powerful and so relevant to everyone. It’s something that we all can use through our storms. It’s a hallelujah that we can raise.
Defender – Francesca Battistelli
I have been loving the version of the song ‘defender’ by Francesca Battistelli featuring Steffany Gretzinger. This song shows and reminds us that God knows us. He knows what we need before we even know and goes to great lengths before we even ask. He fights every battle, we just need to be calm and trust Him. It reminds us that His way, although we may not understand at the time is so much better than our own, the lyrics in this song show us this. Jesus knows us, He loves us and He will always defend and protect you. For me, this song is quite emotional and very meaningful. The lyrics speak so close to my heart and remind me daily that He is in control and is with me through it all.
