The Beauty Of Driving In A City

I like to think of life as a map. It’s a journey full of intricacies, beauty, hardships and individual purpose. It’s full of crossroads and paths, some dead ends and some open roads… but more on the map in a moment, lets just talk about seasons for a second…

The thing about seasons is that they can be both beautiful and ugly. They can be both happy and sad. They can be straightforward or extremely confusing. Each season you face is unlike the other, but one thing that each season carries is purpose. Even in the darkest, most ugly and confusing of seasons there is something that is going develop your character and help you to flourish. There is something that is in there to lead you to the places you’re supposed to be and to the people you’re supposed to be surrounded with.

So…how does this link to a map…

On a map there are many routes that you can choose to follow, many places you can choose to go, many routes that you can take. In a season you may feel like going in one direction, but choose to take another. In a season you may meet someone or you may say goodbye to someone. The similarity between a map and a season is that they’re designed to lead you somewhere…on a map, in a season and in life there are are so many directions that you can take, but how do you know which is the right one?

I feel that so many of us stress about our ‘purpose’. We’re so fixed on making sure we take the ‘right’ path that we forget to enjoy the view of the path we’re currently walking on. Some of us worry about it so much, that we wander up and down many paths, heading down many different streets and it’s not always pretty. I’m just gonna put it out there and say there is no ‘right’ path to reach your destination or purpose. Everyones journey is different. Everyone faces unique seasons and takes different routes, so don’t compare yourself to the way someone else is following the map, follow it in the way that is right for you.

One other thing I just want to point out is that it’s okay to walk down the wrong road.

Someone once said to me ‘The beauty of driving in a city is that if you get lost, there’s always another road that brings you back on track’. And it’s so true! It’s okay if you go off track for a little while. It’s okay if you lose yourself for a moment. There will always be a way back into the light. There will always be a path or a road that leads you to the street you’re supposed to be on… even if it takes a little longer than first expected and you have to face some detours along the way.

And besides, where would be the fun in a straight and easy road?! Just think how much the seasons, the detours, the roads and the paths are going to teach you and help you grow! It doesn’t mean its going to be easy, but I promise it will be worth it.
