I was so excited to just live my life as a Christian and learn more about Jesus!Maddy Lee
Hi, I’m Maddy and this is my story…
I grew up in a Christian home, being brought up with Christian morals and values by my parents, but personally didn’t believe in a ‘God’.
I went to church now and again with my parents throughout my childhood, but I wasn’t ever there ‘willingly’. My twin brother loved church and was a big part of the worship band, but I just didn’t get it. When I was 13, I was at an evening service at the local Methodist church, thinking about all the better things I could have been doing than being sat with a load of old people in a boring church, when I met a lady called Kat who invited me to join a dance group she was leading.
I said yes and soon became friends with the girls in the group along with Kat, who I then found out was the youth worker for my local Methodist church. Kat quickly became my mentor and someone I loved hanging out with and so I started going to the Christian youth events that she ran. I was shocked to meet people my age that were Christian and I soon became friends with them and wondered what the hype was about this guy called Jesus. My new friends as well as my twin brother then persuaded me to join them by going to a 4 day festival in summer called Soul Survivor. I was nervous, but excited.
All I can say is, those 4 days changed my life. I was so shocked to see so many young people just like me, getting hyped for Jesus and I wanted a taste of it! So after Soul Survivor I got more stuck in with the church and the people.
Fast forward to 2018, when I got baptised at the age of 16 in a small pool in the garden of my church (classy, I know). I was so excited to just live my life as a Christian and learn more about Jesus!
Hebrews 3:3 [NIV]
‘…The builder of a house has greater honour than the house itself’
This verse really resonates with me as I love to honour God for what He has built around me throughout my journey as a Christian. I am so lucky to have such incredible people and mentors around me that God has brought into my life, to build and shape me as a person.
Since being baptised, my faith has taken over more and more of my life! I now volunteer at our churches youth club that welcomes 130 crazy kids every Friday, I go to a Bible study and to church every Sunday, as well as running my own girls group called ‘Flourish’ alongside a friend, supporting young girls through one of the hardest stages of their lives.
I’m so grateful for what God has done in my life so far and all the incredible people I have met through Him and I can’t wait to see what else God has in store for me.
