May His presence go before you, and behind you and beside you. All around you and within you. He is with you.lyrics from ‘the blessing’ by elevation worship
Have you ever been so anxious about the future that you’re forgetting to live in the present?
During a time like we are in it is SO easy to be worried and anxious about what is happening and fearful of what tomorrow will bring. Whether it’s a deadline with course work or trying to figure out what is going to happen after the lockdown is over, there are so many things that make us forget about today and also the about the person who has everything under control. What you’ve got to remember is that He believes in us when everything else seems so big. When our life seems so tough and too much for us to handle, God is there holding out His hand. He is there, and is always one step ahead of us, being our Father who has everything under control.
Throughout my life I have struggled with anxiety and having a huge cloud of fear for what is going to come next in my life and what God has in store for me. Often, I’ve let myself forget about God in those times of fear, pushing my focus on all my worries instead of giving it over to Him. I’ll be stuck in a cycle of worry for days on end, focusing on myself and what I can do to stop everything instead of handing it over to God, causing me to not have lived those days to the fullest. I know it sounds so cheesy when I say ‘Live life to the fullest’ but it is honestly so true! Not allowing your fear and your worries of tomorrow affect the way you live your life today but giving them to God instead and living your life for Him is the best thing you can do for yourself.
Matthew 6:33-34 [NLT]
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
In the Bible it tells us to place God above all else. It shows us that our worries and our anxieties don’t have to be such a big and overpowering part of our day. We need to trust and know that God is going to give us everything we need in His time and in His power. The truth is…nothing is worth worrying about when we have God with us. We are literally told ‘Don’t worry about tomorrow’ (Matthew 6:34 – NLT). It’s a clear sign that there is not a day where God hasn’t already paved the future for you. He doesn’t want you worrying, He wants you to know and believe that He has everything under control.
During this season I have been able to spend more of my time focusing on God, reading my Bible, listening to podcasts & music and trying to be a more spiritually led Christian. This is something that has helped me to understand that tomorrow is in Gods hands just as much as today. This time has helped me to realise and see what God is doing in me, in the now.
So I encourage you, when you’re worrying, to give your thanks and your praises to God. To thank Him for the new day He has given you, to thank Him for having His hand over you whilst you were sleeping and to thank Him that you are able to get ready for the day ahead. Thank God for the now and for everything He is doing in you.
Don’t dwell on the future, just be apart of the present while you can.
