Draw near to Him

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you

James 4:8 [ESV]

Let’s talk about intimacy with God for a minute. Humans have been created with the innate desire to love deeply and to be loved in return. We can find this love in family, friendships, relationships, pets and many other places but I think it’s so easy to forget the kind of love God has for you. His love is JEALOUS for you. Jealous for your time, jealous for your heart where you so easily can give it away to so many other things and people. He is pursuing after you constantly waiting for you to come to Him and spend time in His presence. However, He is gentle and He is kind, never forcing himself into your day or your heart. It’s your choice to seek Him also.

Intimacy is a word that can either bring feelings of disappointment, anger and rejection to mind or it can bring feelings of safety, security and reminder of close relationships we have with the people we love the most. Whatever your experience of intimacy in the past has been, the great news that I have for you, is that God shows us what it looks like to love someone so deeply you’d do anything for them without any expectation of receiving anything in return. He promises to never leave or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6) and He will never ever let you down or disappoint you (romans 10:11). WHAT a love. Wow

Now, I wonder for you what it looks like to seek God’s face in the everyday. Spending time in His presence, allowing the word to change you from the inside out or sometimes simply just ‘being’. No agenda, no plan, just making space for Him and allowing His grace and kindness to wash over you and remind you of the beauty of your first love. He’s consistent through it all, through all the highs and lows, His goodness and love for you never runs out. Aren’t you so grateful for that? I know I am. I fall short every single day, multiple times a day and yet He still loves me, fully and completely. FLIP

A few ways I found it helpful to be more present with Jesus in the day to day has been firstly having good rhythms of rest. I try to make sure I have carved out intentional time each week just to be alone and refresh. Going for walks I find really helpful in that I can put my phone away or leave it at home and with no distractions just be in nature and listen for what He’s trying to tell me. Making time every single day to spend time in the Bible will change your life. Not being dramatic, it’s actually true. The word of God is ALIVE and if you allow it to, it will change the way you love, the way you spend your time, the way you think. It will literally change everything. Highly recommend it. (If you haven’t read the bible before, start with John. It’s the story of Jesus. A gooden’). Lastly, get yourself into Christian community, find some real beautiful humans to be friends with. Being surrounded by people who encourage you, gently challenge you and push you closer to Jesus is so important and helpful. Do the crazy journey of life with people, you have been created for relationship not isolation! There will be more people who can identify with how you feel than you’d think.

God is soooo after your heart. Let Him in, I can guarantee you it will be the best decision you ever make. He is safe, kind and so good!
