So with 2020 coming to an end, I think we can all agree that we need to be a little kinder to ourselves this Christmas. Although Christmas is usually a fun and exciting time of year, it can also be hard season for some people. the festive season can cause a lot of financial hardship and can take a massive toll on peoples mental health – let alone amongst a global pandemic! So, I wanted to share 3 ways we can show some self-kindness this festive season.
Remember what is most important
2020 I feel really has highlighted the things we should value most in life – spending time with your loved ones. However, that is a little harder this year, but here are a few ways we can get around it. For example, you can FaceTime your grandparents or drop a Christmas package over to them! As well as this don’t forget the reason we celebrate Christmas…to honour the birth of Jesus. So when you’re stressing about the pressures of Christmas, just remember why we do what we do, it is all about Him.
Put yourself and God first
Christmas is a time for kindness and generosity, however sometimes I feel we get so caught up in expectations, we think that if we don’t get a good enough present then we have failed, but by thinking this way we are not being kind to ourselves, instead we create stress which is not enjoyable at all. So slow down this Christmas, take 15 minutes a day to refill your cup, spend some time with God because I can promise it will make all the difference.
Focus on the good
It is so easy to fall into the trap of negative thoughts. This time of year is so much harder for people, however, you can practice being happy. Go on a walk, get outside and just talk to God about things that are troubling you and thank Him for all the good things you have in your life. By acknowledging the things you’re grateful for, your outlook on life itself will shift in the best way.
I hope that these tips help and I hope you all have an amazing Christmas! Remember to be kind to yourself.
